Finished patio and outdoor kitchen walkthrough

On a flag-lot in Carmel Valley, a masonry BBQ had been crumbling along its footing for a decade. The homeowners had stopped using the patio entirely — the broken tile around the grill was a tripping hazard, and water pooled along the back wall every winter. The brief was a full rebuild: take the old BBQ out, set drainage under the new patio, and put a real cooking station against the back fence. Six weeks later, a 446-square-foot interlocking paver patio sits where the old structure used to, alongside a 16-foot Eldorado modular outdoor kitchen clad in stone veneer with eight built-in appliances. Paver lights and a 30-foot underground drain line finish the space.
Over 1,000 five-star reviews and 1,500+ San Diego homeowners served.
Paver pattern: ORCO Mediterranean Express field tile (416 pieces) with ORCO Country Cobble 6×8 and 6×6 border units for a defined edge along the patio perimeter
Outdoor kitchen layout: three Eldorado modular cabinet sections (60-inch, 48-inch, and 24-inch) joined with end caps to form a continuous 16-foot island against the fence line
Stone veneer: 114 sf of Eldorado-equivalent stone veneer panels cladding the island base; MSI stone slab countertop selected after the original 2.5-inch product was swapped for a depth-appropriate alternative
Drainage: 30 lf of 3-inch SDR35 pipe with two PVC 45/90 elbows and four drain caps routed under the paver field to a collection point, sloped to drain away from the house
Gas extension: 10 lf of 3/4-inch gas line with tracer tape trenched 18 inches below grade to reach the kitchen island; two 3/4-inch sweeps installed
Lighting: 4 paver-inset TS-HPL-6 warm-white fixtures wired on 12/2 low-voltage cable

Projects of this type in Carmel Valley run roughly $28,000 to $35,000. This project included 446 sf of ORCO pavers, a 16-foot modular outdoor kitchen with eight built-in appliances and stone veneer, underground drainage, four paver lights, and a gas line extension. Kitchen size and appliance count are the biggest cost drivers.
Yes. A gas line permit is required in San Diego for any new gas supply run to an outdoor appliance. A new underground extension of this type typically requires a Simple MEP permit; for this project, the gas line was pulled through standard channels. California Plumbing Code Chapter 12 requires the line to be buried at least 18 inches with tracer tape, and the trench must stay open for inspection before backfill.
On this project, 30 linear feet of 3-inch SDR35 pipe was set under the paver field with PVC elbows and four surface drain caps, including one inside the kitchen cabinet footprint. The paver surface was graded to slope away from the foundation, with a target of a minimum 6-inch drop in the first 10 feet away from the structure.
Stone veneer panels are low-maintenance: wipe down with a damp cloth and re-seal the countertop annually if it is a natural stone slab. Stainless steel appliances benefit from a stainless cleaner a few times a year. The ORCO paver field should be inspected every year or two for joint sand loss; a fresh sweep of polymeric sand every few years keeps the field locked.
The on-site construction window for this project was approximately 6 calendar weeks (30 working days). Paver installation wrapped in the first part of the build. A product substitution on the countertop stone added time to the kitchen phase.
This project used ORCO Mediterranean Express as the field tile with ORCO Country Cobble 6x8 and 6x6 units as a border. The Mediterranean Express pattern in tan and brown tones suits the style common in Carmel Valley homes, and the Country Cobble border gives the slab a defined edge without cutting field pavers.
