Paver Patio + Turf Backyard, Mira Mesa San Diego

Demo started with the homeowner having pre-cleared most vegetation. The crew demolished two seat wall sections totaling approximately 41.6 sf, broke out the existing fire pit and capped the gas line, sawcut 12 lf of concrete, and removed plant material and rock. Concrete was found thicker than planned, which the project manager documented on site. All debris hauled through the side gate.

Initial drainage layout placed 30 lf of 3-inch SDR35 pipe in the backyard. A collapsed existing drain section discovered by the plumber required extending drainage an additional 30 lf into the front yard. A second drainage run was later found to have been buried under base material before testing; the crew excavated, retested, and reburied with sign-off. All drainage lines were tested and inspected before final backfill, with a licensed plumber signing off on the outlet connection. Five PVC elbows and five wyes/tees connected the runs; six drain caps were set at collection points.

After grading, the crew placed and compacted the crushed aggregate base across the full 1,070 sf paver footprint. Forty linear feet of 1-inch gray conduit were laid under the base for future low-voltage wiring. Sand bedding was screeded level before any pavers were set.

ORCO Villa Express pavers were installed field-first, with a gray soldier-course border set in concrete along perimeter edges. The layout and border alignment were walked and approved by the homeowner on site before field paving continued. Pavers under the covered deck area were installed last. A 24.5 sf concrete pad was poured for the grill island base.

SGW weed cloth went down across the 898 sf turf zone. Imperial Desert Rye Premium was cut to fit the curved layout, secured with 5-inch nails, seamed, and infilled with Imperial Camo Fill. The 130 lf concrete mow strip was set to create a clean separation between turf and pavers. A narrow planting bed along one fence line received shredded fir mulch (120 sf) over landscape fabric.

A licensed plumber confirmed the drain outlet destination and completed final glue and cure before the final walk. Irrigation and drainage were retested at the homeowner's request following bobcat work. The side gate was reattached, the site was swept, and pallet pickup was coordinated with ORCO.
